Quarantine Activities: Update at the City of Refuge

Quarantine Activities: Update at The City of Refuge, Honduras

A word from our IMI Honduras team:
“Despite the natural response of our body and mind to fall in chaos and anxiety there is so much more that God has prepared for us during this time of quarantine. Fighting with stress, fear and the enemy in general has been one of the tasks embraced at City of Refuge, the tíostías and members of the staff have been preparing many activities for the kids, like our psychologist Julissa mentioned; not to have fun but to prepare ourselves and the kids for the arrival of Jesus Christ. The activities done with the kids are not just for fun but the main purpose is to deliver a message enlighten by the Holy Ghost. City of Refuge staff has been trying to get the kids closer to God during this time so they can discern that this is what God has intended to happen and that they are exactly where they were supposed to be for a purpose.”

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 NASB

Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion... Ecclesiastes 4:9,10 NKJV
Soccer is one of our children’s favorite activities. They are very talented soccer players! Our boys and girls usually play  soccer separately but they are playing together during this time. They are learning the value of teamwork. They also learned that God sees both boys and girls as equally important and we’re all the same in Gods eyes. These are valuable lessons for children to learn.

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; And confirm for us the work of our hands; Yes, confirm the work of our hands. Psalms 90:17 NASB
Our children participated in making cotton candy with the company Tios and Tias. Learning new tasks challenges our children to try new things. This is important in teaching our children valuable life building skills. It also encourages them growing their confidence and lets them know they are valuable.

Jesus invited the children, “Let the little children come to me, and don't stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Luke 18:16 CSB
During the children’s time of quarantine the boys went on a walk and had a bonfire with Lic. Josué. They brought their dinner with them and ate around the bonfire with their friends. They spent time reflecting on the value and power of the cross. The kids were able to share their messages of gratitude of things they are able to be grateful for during hard times.

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. John 4:24 NKJV
After dinner, the children participate in worship, prayer, and soaking with the Lord. This is a time of intimacy spent with Jesus. In this important time they come into Jesus presence and spend time praying for their families, prayer requests, and to express thanksgiving for the blessings in their lives. In this precious time many of our children experience the presence and power of the Holy Ghost and are moved to tears while they surrender to the Lord Jesus. What an amazing time!

Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 NKJV

We allowed the children to choose their quarantine activities. Baking was the most popular of all the activities. Tia Lidia taught them how to bake homemade bread. They were excited and did such an amazing job! Doris said the boys and girls did such a good job they could each do this activity on their own. She also mentioned they could open their own bakery to make extra money in the City of Refuge. Great job kids! This is another example of a life skill and hard work ethics we work hard to teach our children at the City of Refuge.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.  3 John 1:4 ESV

Crazy hair day! Our children loved this activity. Their creativity was challenged while they each created their own crazy hair style in order to win at the crazy hair day challenge! This activity taught our children that God loves us all equally despite our differences.

Please feel free to leave an encouraging comment and prayers in the comments section. We’d love to hear from our friends. God bless!
